New Books in the SSG Library
Thanks to financial support from the Fund for the Support of the Arts, we were able to purchase the latest literature focused on the topic of visual arts for the Library at the Central Slovakian Gallery in 2023. This includes over eighty books for children and adults, covering a wide range of genres—from artist monographs and architecture to popular non-fiction. All these books are available at Dolná 8, where our public library is located.
Among the new additions for professionals and art students, we can highlight the monograph František Studený, which is the artist’s first monograph ever. The library also received a book from the UMPRUM publishing house titled Ztracená vláda věcí tvých se k tobě navrátí, which explores the relationships between architecture and politics in the Czech Republic after 1989. Additionally, we acquired the book Maľba SK, which explores the contextual meanings of contemporary Slovak painting and its development after 2000.
For children and students, we were able to purchase books like Myšlenkové mapy pro děti, which teaches children to use one of the most effective thinking tools in a playful way. The book Leonardo da Vinci takes children on a journey to discover one of the world’s most famous artists, while Jak vznikl film presents the history of film in a fun and engaging format.
The Library of the Central Slovakian Gallery is the only specialized library focused on visual arts in Banská Bystrica. It boasts a rich collection of monographs, catalogs, theoretical literature, and specialized periodicals and non-periodical journals, covering both Slovak and international art. The gallery library serves scientific and research purposes and is available to anyone interested in visual arts and arts education. Literature is available for on-site study for a symbolic fee. The complete catalog of the Central Slovakian Gallery’s books is also available through the DAWINCI library information system online at https://ssgbb.dawinci.sk/, which was implemented in 2020 with the support of the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region.
