Repríza výstavy košickej umelkyne, ktorá prezentuje výber z malieb, tapisérií, návrhov a kresieb od konca 60. rokov 20. storočia po súčasnosť, predstavuje málo známe práce a ponúka nové pohľady na dielo autorky, ktoré bolo v úzadí. Retrospektívna výstava jej prác v textile, ktorá siaha od jej raných tapisérií a návrhov až po najaktuálnejšie maľby, odhaľuje konzistentnosť jej návrhov počas niekoľkých desaťročí.
Názov výstavy bol prebraný z kľúčového textu druhej vlny feminizmu z Druhého pohlavia Simone de Beauvoir. Západné feministky často využívali alternatívne médiá vrátane textilu, keďže tieto nemali takú históriu, v ktorej dominovali muži, ako napríklad v ako soche a maľbe. Tapisérie boli často využívané počas socializmu ako umenie vo verejnom priestore, preto ich slovenská teória často chápe ako konzervatívny žáner, ktorému dominoval socialistický realizmus a ktorý bol nositeľom predovšetkým kolektívnej skúsenosti. Potenciál tapisérií niesť kritické odkazy ešte nebol preskúmaný ani zdokumentovaný, táto výstava sa o to pokúša.
Vo svojich tapisériách Katarína Tekeľová Blažová ukazuje, že abstraktné umenie /ktorému dominujú muži/ môže byť emotívne, hlboké ale tiež figuratívne. Jej rané práce, v ktorých skúmala formálne ale tiež autobiografické témy, vzťahy a túžbu redefinujú surrealistický koncept lásky L´amour fou. Rovnako odrážajú autorkine odpovede na abstraktnú maľbu, ako aj niektoré stratégie pop-artu. Cyklus z jej zrelého obdobia Moira predstavuje sexualizovanú a duchovnú podobu materstva a predznačuje cestu k spiritualite.
Okrem textilných prác bude na výstave predstavený aj súbor fotografií, ktoré neboli nikdy vystavené a ktoré dokumentujú jej malé performancie.
Výstava bola premiérovo uvedená vo Východoslovenskom múzeu v Košiciach v roku 2015.
Katarína Tekeľová Blažová (1945) maliarka, autorka tapisérií a art-protisov. Vyštudovala Vysokú školu výtvarných umení v Bratislave – oddelenie voľnej maľby a gobelínu profesora Petra Matejku (1965-1971). V rokoch 1979 až 1989 realizovala viacero výtvarných diel v architektúre v technikách art-protisu, viazanej a tkanej tapisérie, mozaiky a vitráže. Tkané a viazané tapisérie realizovala v spolupráci s Moravskou gobelínovou manufaktúrou vo Valašskom Meziříčí, medzi inými veľkoplošnú tapisériu z raného obdobia Rozhovor v záhrade (1971), cyklus jedenástich tapisérií Moira (1994 -1996) a ručne tkanú oponu Fénix pre Štátne divadlo v Košiciach realizovanú na základe verejnej súťaže (1990). V roku 2012 sa stala finalistkou maľby a grafiky prestížnej medzinárodnej ceny pre súčasné umenie Celeste Prize. Autorkine tapisérie a obrazy boli predstavené na viacerých domácich i zahraničných samostatných výstavách: Moira-Tapisérie/Obrazy – SNM Bratislavský hrad (1996), Východoslovenská galéria Košice (1996), SNG Zvolenský zámok (1998), Slovenský kultúrny inštitút Budapešť (1998), Rakúske kultúrne centrum – Palais Pallfy Viedeň (1998), DNA –Obrazy/Tapisérie – Dom umenia, Bratislava (2008). Zúčastnila sa viacero kolektívnych výstav: Actual Textile Art, Konsolidační banka, Praha (1995), Tapiserie / MGM, Amsterdam (1995), Tapiserie, obraz, prostor, Dům umění, Brno (1995), Actual Textile Art, Galéria Mánes, Praha (1997), Umenie 2007 – Interpretácia skutočnosti, Dom umenia, Bratislava (2007), Papier Kole /česká a slovenská koláž XX a XXI storočia/, Východoslovenská galéria, Košice (2012), Celeste Prize 2012, Múzeum Centrale Montemartini (Rím 2012), 7.Zlínsky Salón – trienále súčasného českého a slovenského umenia, Galerie Zlín (2014). Jej práce sú zastúpené v zbierkach v Slovenskej národnej galérie v Bratislave, Východoslovenskej galérie v Košiciach, Šarišskej galérii v Prešove, v súkromných zbierkach na Slovensku, aj v zahraničí. Má dve deti,žije a pracuje v Košiciach s manželom Františkom Blažom a synom Markom, ktorí sú tiež výtvarní umelci.

The reprise of the exhibition of the artist from Košice features the selection of paintings, tapestries and drawings from the late sixties to the present day alongsite rarely seen works and offers the new insights into the work of the artist that has been hidden from the public exposure. The retrospective of her textile work spanning from her early tapestries and the designs to her very recent paintings reveals the consistancy of her design persisting across the decades.
The title of the exhibition was taken from the chapters of the key document of the second-wave feminism Simone de Beauvoir´s Second Sex. Western feminist artists often embraced alternative media incorporating fabric as these materials did not have the same historically male-dominated precedent that painting and sculpture carried. Fabric and tapestries were frequently used as an art in public places during socialism and that is why in the Slovak art theory and history tapestries are often understood as conservative in the terms of a dominant genre of a socialist realism embracing the collective experience. Its potential being critical has not been studied and shown yet, this exhibition is the first step in this process.
In her tapestries Katarína Tekeľová Blažová shows that an abstract art /male dominated/ can also be emotional, deep and figurative. Her early works in which she explored both formal and autobiographical themes relating to relationships and desire re-define the surrealist concept of L´amour fou. They also reflect her responses to abstract painting but also to some of pop-art strategies. Her cycle of tapestries Moira represents the sexualized and spiritual concept of motherhood in which she also embarks on a spiritual journey.
Alongside textile the show features fascinating photographs that have never been seen before in public and that are the documentations of her small performances.
The exhibition was first presented in the Eastern Slovak Museum in Košice, Slovakia in 2015.
Katarína Tekeľová Blažová (1945) a Slovak painter and a textile artist for whom tapestries are central to her body of work. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava (1965-1971) in Peter Matejka´s studio of painting and tapestry. From 1979 to 1989 she made several works in architecture including tapestries, art-protis, mosaic or stained glass. Her knotted and woven tapestries were made in the collaboration with Moravian Tapestry Factory in Valašské Meziříčí including her early large scale tapestry A Talk in the Garden (1971), the cycle of eleven tapestries Moira (1994-1996) or a hand woven curtain Phoenix commissioned by Košice State Theatre (1990). In 2012 she was nominated for Celeste prize in graphic and painting, an international contemporary art prize. Her cycle of tapestries Moira was shown at her solo exhibitions at home and also abroad : Moira-Tapestries / Paintings, Slovak National Museum Bratislava Castle (1996), East Slovakian Gallery, Košice (1996), Slovak National Gallery Zvolen Castle (1998), Slovak Cultural Institute Budapest (1998), Austrian Cultural Centre – Palais Pallfy Vienna (1998), DNA – Paintings / Tapestries, TheHouse of Arts, Bratislava (2008). Her tapestries and paintings were shown at numerous group shows including Actual Textile Art, Konsolidační banka, Prague (1995), Tapestries /MGM, Amsterdam (1995), Tapestries, Painting, Space, The House of Arts Brno (1996), Actual Textile Art, The Manes Gallery Praha (1997), Art 2007Interpretation of Reality, House of Arts Bratislava (2007), Paper Kole (Czech and Slovak collage of XX and XXI century) The East Slovakian Gallery Košice (2012), Celeste.prize.2012 Centrale Montemartini Rome (2012), 7th New Zlin Salon-triennial Gallery of Fine Arts Zlín (2014). Her works are in the public collections of the Slovak National Gallery Bratislava, East Slovakian Gallery Košice, Šariš Gallery Prešov and private collections in Slovakia and abroad. She has got two children, lives and works in Košice, with her husband František Blažo and son Marko who are artists as well.
